Nitish gets Harvard invite for lecture on Bihar makeover
Patna:
Harvard Kennedy School
, Harvard University, has invited chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar for an online lecture on Bihar, JD(U) acting national president Sanjay Kumar Jha said on Tuesday.
A govt press communiqué said the Indian student community, particularly students of Bihar origin, along with the law and policy student group, had invited Nitish for an online discussion in April on ‘Vision for an educated, prosperous and capable Bihar in the next 10 years'.
The invitation stated how Bihar has emerged as a hub of growth and financial development, crediting good governance and grassroots changes in infrastructure under Nitish's leadership for transforming the state. The changing face of Bihar is a case study for policymakers and scholars worldwide, it said. The invitation also mentioned that the student community was keen to learn about Nitish's vision and leadership in the road map prepared for Bihar's development.
The discussion will offer students, faculty members and research scholars an opportunity to understand Bihar's development model and the challenges ahead, the invite added.
Earlier, Columbia Business School at Columbia University had invited Nitish to address its 7th India Business Conference in New York on April 1, 2011.
Jha said Nitish had been invited to speak to students and faculty online about Bihar's good governance model and how he transformed a BIMARU state into an emerging centre of growth and development, particularly in the infrastructure sector.
"Bihar is a case study for them. They want to hear from Nitish about his role and vision for Bihar over the next 10 years," Jha said.
He also recently took a swipe at RJD chief and former Union minister Lalu Prasad for being invited to deliver a lecture at Harvard University on the turnaround of the railways while out on bail in a corruption case.
During a discussion on the functioning of the ministry of railways in the Rajya Sabha, Jha highlighted Nitish's achievements as railway minister. Without naming Lalu, the JD(U) MP said a former railway minister had been invited to Harvard University for an event, which raised "a huge question mark" considering that the person was out on bail for the land-for-jobs scam and the IRCTC scam.
