Published 14 hours ago2 minute read

Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat will include text-to-speech. It will also feature live subtitles.

The text-to-speech feature for Nintendo Switch 2 will allow players to type in text via the GameChat, and the system will read it out loud. The live subtitles can transcribe what people are saying and display it in a “chat box” on screen. Check out the video showcasing the live subtitles feature below:

GameChat supports text-to-speech. If enabled, you can type in text and the system will read it for you.

While not explicitly confirmed, USB keyboards should be supported too (the Switch 1 already supports them for text input). pic.twitter.com/POY4YMiCKu

Recently, Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) in handheld mode only at launch on June 5. Originally, the official was stated that Nintendo Switch 2 supports VRR on compatible TVs, but Nintendo has since apologized and corrected this.

VRR for Nintendo Switch 2 is not ruled out completely, however. When asked about potential VRR support for the console’s dock, Nintendo notes it has nothing to announce at this time. It’s possible that a new update could come at a later date to bring VRR support in docked mode.

Additionally, Nintendo recently confirmed several free Nintendo Switch 2 updates for 12 first-party Nintendo Switch games. These updates will include free visual upgrades, improved frame rates, GameShare and GameChat support, and HDR support.
