Nikola Jokic, Charles Barkley, and Nuggets vs. Thunder Series

After Game 4, Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised his team's performance, particularly highlighting the bench's contributions in the fourth quarter. Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander emphasized his role as the closer, taking responsibility for securing the 92-87 victory against the Denver Nuggets, which tied the series 2-2. Gilgeous-Alexander, despite a challenging Game 3, scored crucial points in the final frame, reflecting on the pressure he placed on himself to win.
Gilgeous-Alexander expressed his high expectations and mentality of doing whatever it takes to win, viewing closing games as a key responsibility for a team leader. He finished Game 4 with 25 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Daigneault also lauded Gilgeous-Alexander's leadership, noting his resilience and ability to remain level-headed regardless of the game's outcome.
The Denver Nuggets faced criticism for a sluggish Game 4 performance, with Charles Barkley and other media members pointing out the NBA's scheduling as a disadvantage. Barkley argued that the Nuggets playing late on Friday night followed by an early game on Sunday favored the Thunder, who have greater depth. Other analysts criticized both the league's scheduling and the officiating.
Nuggets head coach David Adelman described the game as “disgusting,” acknowledging the tired legs on both sides but highlighting the Thunder’s deeper bench. Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with 27 points but acknowledged his poor shooting and the Thunder's effective defense. He also noted the Thunder's strategy of double-teaming him, making it difficult to get desired shots.
Jokic admitted the Thunder are the favorites in the series and emphasized the need for his team to be tougher. Despite averaging impressive stats during the regular season, Jokic has struggled with his shooting in the series against the Thunder. Charles Barkley attributed Jokic’s struggles to fatigue and the Nuggets' lack of depth at the center position.
The Nuggets missed an opportunity to take a 3-1 lead, losing Game 4 at home. Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
