Nigerian Air Force Conducts Airstrikes on Terrorist Camps in Lake Chad Area

The Nigerian military, through the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Army components of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has reported significant successes in recent counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria's Northeast region. These operations, conducted on June 9, 2025, targeted terrorist strongholds, resulting in the neutralization of terrorists, destruction of infrastructure, and the foiling of planned attacks.
The Nigerian Air Force's Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed a successful air interdiction mission targeting a major terrorist enclave and training ground in Bukar Meram, located on the southern flank of the Lake Chad region in Borno State. According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF's Director of Public Relations and Information, this operation was conducted on June 9, 2025, based on credible intelligence.
The air strike led to the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of key logistics infrastructure, including supply vehicles, weapons storage sites, and makeshift shelters. Crucially, this action thwarted planned terrorist attacks on the communities of Marte and Monguno in Borno State. Air Commodore Ejodame stated, “Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that the strike effectively disrupted imminent threats posed to the communities of Marte and Monguno, reinforcing NAF’s proactive posture in safeguarding civilian populations and critical territories.” He reiterated the NAF's commitment to “protect the sovereignty of the nation and ensure lasting peace and security across the Northeast and beyond.”
In a coordinated effort, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with close air support from the Air Component, also engaged terrorists in Yobe State and the Timbuktu Triangle. The Nigerian Army reported the killing of a prominent Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist kingpin, Malam Jidda, in Ngazalgana, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, on June 9. Malam Jidda was identified as the Ameer of Ngorgore and Malumti villages.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for Operation Hadin Kai, provided details of these ground operations. In Ngazalgana, troops overwhelmed terrorists with superior firepower, leading to Malam Jidda's death while other terrorists fled with injuries. Simultaneously, a snap ambush by troops from another front into the Timbuktu Triangle resulted in the neutralization of several more terrorists. Continued exploitation of the Mallamfatori general area in Abadam local government also led to the discovery of additional neutralized terrorist bodies and a significant cache of recovered arms and equipment.
The items recovered during these coordinated offensives included AK-47 rifles, terrorists’ motorcycles, a large quantity of ammunition, AK-47 rifle magazines, Rocket-Propelled Gun (RPG) tubes, hand grenades, handheld radios, and other sundry items. Captain Kovangiya emphasized that these “renewed offensives underscored the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts by Operation Hadin Kai, backed by an efficient air component,” and affirmed the commitment “to its operational objectives to ensure the complete defeat of Boko Haram/ISWAP and the restoration of peace and security.”
