Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, for breach of security.

The order was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, on Thursday.

“It is with great concern that the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed with immediate effect closure of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State.

“This decision comes in light of recent security breaches and unfortunate loss of lives within the university community,” he said.

Usman said, “The safety and security of all citizens, especially students, remain a top priority for the government. We are deeply saddened by the recent incidents and the government is taking proactive measures to address the situation swiftly.”

He urged the university community to remain vigilant, calm, and cooperate with the authorities during this period of closure, adding that the government is working diligently to restore order, ensure the safety of all citizens and maintain peace within the university community and the state.

He assured that effort is being made to investigate the security breaches and bring perpetrators to justice.
