NIB's clandestine invitation of our members shocking - NPP

Published 3 weeks ago2 minute read

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed shock over the number of invitations issued by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to some of its members.

On Saturday, February 22, the NIB invited Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC.

On Sunday, February 23, former Education Minister and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, was arrested over alleged financial irregularities at the GIIF.

A former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority, Kwame Ohene Djan, was also arrested in connection with the NSA scandal.

Speaking to Citi News, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed said the party will not be intimidated by what it describes as actions of a state-sponsored security agency.

“We as a party have received this particular news as a shock and we have since been asking ourselves, is there the return of the criminal libel law? Is it that free speech has been stifled or it is just that, we have got into government and we need to intimidate them?

“I want to put it on record that we in the New Patriotic Party would not be intimidated by the government’s clandestine move to silence us not to speak out. We will speak out and we encourage members of our party to speak out.”
