New Movies Out Now in Theaters: What to See This Week
The month of February is bringing terror and heartbreak with films hoping to capitalize on Valentine’s Day, as well as a new slew of sequels to popular films.
This upcoming weekend offers a new addition to the beloved “Paddington” series, a new Marvel entry for “Captain America” and a group of smaller films expanding into wide release ahead of the upcoming Academy Awards.
“Paddington in Peru” transports Paddington Bear (Ben Whishaw) to Peru in order to visit Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton), now at the Home for Retired Bears, as an adventure in the Amazon rainforest takes Paddington on an unexpected journey. Dougal Wilson takes over from Paul King, directing a cast that includes Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Joel Fry and Robbie Gee.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is the latest film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Endgame.” Steve Rogers, now played by Anthony Mackie, finds himself tangled in an international incident after meeting with the president. Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez and Shira Haas round out the cast.
For audiences more interested in awards-fare, the Brazilian hit “I’m Still Here” is expanding into wide release following the film’s best picture, best actress and best international film nominations at the Academy Awards. It tells the true story of Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), a woman who fights to keep her family together during a military dictatorship in the ’70s.
The documentary “Becoming Led Zeppelin” is also expanding to more theaters, telling the story the birth of the “Stairway to Heaven” rockers. Finally, the Oscar-shortlisted Norwegian film “Armand” is expanding to more theaters, starring “The Worst Person in the World” breakout Renate Reinsve as a mother who must face a school scandal involving her son.
