New Chinese MG car launching soon to beat the Tesla Model Y
Famous Chinese carmaker MG is set to introduce a new electric car in the UK soon. The upcoming electric model is likely to rival in the crossover segment internationally. Read its complete details below.
The Chinese car brand MG has shared that it is ready to debut a new electric car at the Goodwood Speed Festival this year. The annual motorsports event takes place in the UK, where the original MG brand was born, but later it was taken over by China.
The brand posted an image on its social media handles with the text “all will be revealed” and “beginning of the new chapter” on July 10, 2025. Additionally, the teaser image shows a silhouette of a car that looks identical to the IM6 sedan.
Mind you, the IM brand range of cars is considered premium in China, and has been co-developed by SAIC (MG owner), which is an e-commerce firm, Alibaba and Zhangjiang Hi-tech.
The IM6 is a renowned EV in China as it is popular for its quality, comfort, and efficiency. There is a high possibility that the new model will be a crossover version of the IM6 sedan.
Speaking of the IM6 sedan, it is offered with a range-topping 757 bhp electric motor, which offers the segment’s best 0-100 km/h time of 3.5 seconds. It is powered by an 800V architecture, hence it can be charged from 30-80% in just 15 minutes.
The Chinese electric car brands have been rapidly growing worldwide due to their competitive technology and class-leading features. MG itself has seen a decent growth in India after it launched the Comet EV and the Windsor EV, which are further rebadged Chinese electric cars.
