Netflix's Upcoming Dungeons & Dragons Show Making Up For Honor Among Thieves' Biggest Missing Character Looks More Likely Now

The TV show may adapt a fan-favorite hero that nearly made it into Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The Dungeons & Dragons movies of the 2000s aren't renowned in fantasy, but Honor Among Thieves burst onto screens in 2023, making D&D the most entertaining IP in Hollywood. It failed, however, to include a long-standing hero that many hoped to see on-screen for the first time. On the Netflix TV show, the popular game may start to see its icons coming to life.

D&D has been trying to pin down a TV show for years, with Rawson Marshall Thurber and Joe Manganiello both helming previous projects that didn't pan out. Despite the critical success of the 2023 movie, it encountered difficulty at the box office, so an Honor Among Thieves sequel is unlikely. Now that D&D has finally locked in a slot on Netflix, fans have something to look forward to. With the announcement of a new book series, there may be a connection between those and the show.

The drow ranger Drizzt Do'urden was invented by the American writer R.A. Salvatore for his first novel, The Crystal Shard, and he is set to return in a new book series coming in October 2025. Since his 1988 inception, Drizzt has featured in over 40 different books, graphic novels, video games, and an animated short, but never a live-action TV show. , Breezy, but in its inevitable showcase of D&D's most heroic drow, it may provide Netflix some intriguing source material. The novel is titled The Finest Edge of Twilight.

Served by Drew Crevello as showrunner, the new Netflix D&D TV show will be called The Forgotten Realms, and as such, should take advantage of the Realms' most popular characters. Drizzt Do'Urden and his scimitars are the most widely known features of the D&D campaign setting, the Forgotten Realms. They were axed from Honor Among Thieves in part due to a Hasbro statement on the color of drow skin and their commitment to ensuring ethical representations in their D&D media. However, and his daughter.

The Netflix D&D show must include key Forgotten Realms characters to maximize the response from diehard D&D fans, but will probably run with mostly original characters at first. Honor Among Thieves did well with original characters, building on D&D's strength - a core group of friends saving the world. But by seeking the high viewership inevitable of adapting Drizzt and his kin.

Fans would have loved a Drizzt cameo in Honor Among Thieves, and they may finally get the character in the series. While some fans of Salvatore's work argue that not adapting it preserves the authenticity of the story, without risking unfaithful or bad TV, . Honor Among Thieves nailed the formula of adapting D&D books into its original storyline, where Drizzt was going to have a small cameo role guiding the main characters through the Underdark.

If the episode featuring Drizzt or his daughter went well, Crevello could include similar material in Dungeons & Dragons.

After Drizzt was cut, the role went to Xenk. Xenk was incredible in Drizzt's place and could inspire the TV show to try a similar strategy. If the show leads with a strong cast of original characters making up its central adventuring party, it can work in references to legendary lore alongside them. Drizzt is just one example of D&D lore that should feature in the show, even if in passing. Tiamat, Vecna, Eilistraee - all these icons would reel in viewers.
