The incident, which occurred on March 1, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., was reported to the Orile-Ilugun police outstation by 20-year-old Alaba Abdullahi, the child’s mother.

Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Omolola Odutola, confirmed the details of the arrest.
Ms Abdullahi reported that her daughter was playing nearby when Mr Haruna, a local resident, allegedly committed the offence inside his room.

She discovered her child in distress, emerging from the suspect’s room, after hearing her crying. Upon examination, the child was found to be experiencing difficulty walking and displaying signs of physical trauma.

“Upon further examination, it was revealed that the victim had difficulty walking and exhibited signs of physical trauma,” stated CSP Odutola.

Both the victim and the suspect were transported to the General Hospital Odeda for medical examination and treatment. Medical forms have been issued, and the police are awaiting the doctor’s findings.

Haruna has been taken into custody and has denied the allegations. The case has been referred to the Division Crime Branch for investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Eleweran upon completion of the preliminary inquiry.

“We take these allegations very seriously and are committed to ensuring justice for the victim. The safety and well-being of our community, especially children, remain a top priority for the Ogun State Police Command,” CSP Odutola stated.

The police have urged anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
