NDLS stampede: Majority of victims suffer lower limb and bone injuries; Railways appoints panel to investigate

NEW DELHI: Most victims of the

New Delhi Railway Station stampede

sustained injuries to their lower limbs, while others experienced

bone injuries

, according to official sources.
Doctors at LNJP hospital in the national capital have released the injured after initial treatment. A medical team of 15 doctors continues to attend to the remaining patients.
The incident occurred on February 15 night when numerous devotees were travelling to the Maha Kumbh 2025.
DCP Railway, KPS Malhotra, explained that the incident took place when a large crowd gathered at platform 14, where the Prayagraj Express was stationed. The situation worsened due to delayed departures of the Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani, causing overcrowding at platforms 12, 13, and 14.

AIMIM Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed condolences to the bereaved families and posted on X, calling for the establishment of an independent, judicially monitored SIT to investigate the incident.
Owaisi additionally called for an independent investigation into the structural issues within the Indian Railways.
"My deepest condolences to the loved ones of those who died in the

stampede. This was an avoidable tragedy," Owaisi said.
"Appointing an independent, judicially monitored SIT to investigate the tragedy," he added."An independent inquiry into the systemic failures of the Indian Railways," he further said.
Highlighting the significance of Indian Railways, he said, "Indian Railways is a lifeline for millions of Indians; it does not deserve the Modi government's mismanagement."
Railways name members of committee formed to probe stampede at New Delhi Station
The Railways on Sunday announced the appointment of two senior officials to the inquiry committee investigating the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station.
The committee includes Narsingh Deo, Principal Chief Commercial Manager of Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Northern Railway.
The inquiry, which has already begun, has directed authorities to secure all video footage from the station to aid the investigation.
The probe was initiated by the Railways on Saturday following the tragic stampede that claimed 18 lives.
