NBA - San-Antonio-Spurs-tipped-to-make-summer-bid-for-Kevin-Durant

San Antonio Spurs have been tipped to make some major changes to their roster, starting with the addition of one the NBA’s biggest stars.

Kevin Durant could leave Phoenix Suns this summer and San Antonio has been touted as one of his most likely destinations.

A quick look at the NBA results over the past few seasons highlights why the Spurs are desperate to add some scoring output to their roster.

They have not qualified for the NBA play-offs since 2018/19 and have failed to finish higher than 10th position in the Western Conference since then.

While Durant is in the veteran stage of his career, he is still rated as one the league’s top players after averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Durant could be a target for the Spurs as they strive to improve their on-court fortunes net season.

"They have a ton of assets," Charania said on the Pat McAfee Show. "They have tradable contracts, the number two and number 14 picks in this year’s draft, and a bunch of future picks as well.

“So, whether it’s a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo - I think Kevin Durant is another guy to watch." "There was mutual interest between the Spurs and Durant at the trade deadline.

"I think they’ll be very active in trying to find a wing player who can take them over the top."

With the 2024/25 season currently at the Conference Finals stage, NBA fans of other teams could have been forgiven for paying more attention to football livescore platforms than Durant’s future.

However, the 36-year-old’s bullish nature on social media makes him an easy target for fans who enjoy triggering a response from professional athletes.

One fan highlighted that the Suns would be the fifth NBA team Durant played for if he joined them, which would damage his claim to be a top-15 all-time player. Durant quickly hit back.

"Like I always say!" Durant posted. "Make your own rules up and curate this NBA fantasy world the way you want. Enjoy that top 15 list."

If Durant joins San Antonio for the 2025/26 season, he would forge an intriguing partnership with French basketball prodigy Victor Wembanyama.

The latest NBA news reports that the 21-year-old should be medically cleared for pre-season games, handing the Spurs a massive boost ahead of the new campaign.

Wembanyama missed the last part of the 2024/25 regular season due to right shoulder deep vein thrombosis, and the Spurs subsequently fell out of play-off contention in the Western Conference.

He was reluctant to discuss the issue at an end-of-season press conference and was clearly upset at the impact his absence had on the Spurs’ NBA scores.

The French star has been tipped to miss the EuroBasket 2025 tournament this summer, but should be back in the fold when the Spurs begin their preparations for next season.

Wembanyama has demonstrated his game-changing ability during his first two seasons in the NBA, recording an average of 22.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.7 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.

Many people believe he could become one of the best players ever to grace the NBA if he can steer clear of injury issues in the future.

Teammate Jeremy Sochan recently gave an insight into Wembanyama's mindset, saying he never stops working in his bid to reach the top of the basketball world.

"Day in and day out, he is doing all these little things like playing chess and working on his mental health," Sochan told USA Today.

"He is doing yoga. That all plays a part in who he is and what he can do on the court.

"It’s all the other things that he does that really open everything up on the court. That may happen behind closed doors, but I think that’s really important. He’s really consistent about it. He wants to be the greatest.
