Union home minister Amit Shah has set a deadline of March 31, 2026 to end the red menace in the entire country after which security forces have upped their ante against Maoists in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand along with the CRPF.

To combat Left Wing Extremism (LWE), the Centre has spent '100 crore in the past one year on central agencies for hiring helicopters by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), according to annual data of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The funds were used for payment of bills pertaining to airlift provided by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for counter-LWE operations and for infrastructure support to CAPFs, it added.

The Centre has further provided funds to the tune of '3,450 crore in 2023-24 to all eight LWE-affected states to fill the critical gaps in public infrastructure and services in the most LWE-affected districts. It noted that there are 25 most LWE-affected districts across these states.

In 11 LWE-affected districts, there were no Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVs). The Department of School Education, Ministry of HRD, has sanctioned 11 new KVs for these districts. Of these, nine new KVs have been opened.

Similarly, six Navodaya Vidyalayas have been sanctioned and opened.
