Police, acting on intelligence, tracked Kipyego, a murder suspect, to his home in Sang'alo on Monday, February 10.
Nandi North Police Commander Simon Muli told Citizen Digital that officers attempted to arrest Kipyego, but he had locked himself inside his house.
While trying to escape arrest, Kipyego broke through his rooftop and fell, landing on a sharp object that left him seriously injured.
"The officers took the suspect to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning while receiving treatment,” he stated.
The police commander said preliminary investigations indicated that Kipyego was directly involved in his brother's murder and was trying to evade arrest.
However, Sang'alo village residents questioned the circumstances surrounding Kipyego's death, claiming spent cartridges were found outside his house, suggesting police may have shot him before taking him to the hospital.
A relative of the deceased urged a thorough investigation into Kipyego's death, saying the circumstances remain unclear.
In a separate incident, CCTV footage captured the moments before a USIU student fell to his death in December 2024.
Benedict Mberesero, 21, a second-year student at United States International University (USIU)-Africa in Nairobi, was found dead near the hostel gate at 4:30am, according to a police report.
Police identified a preliminary cause of death, citing notes addressed to the victim, his mother, brother, and sister.
CCTV footage from the premises showed Mberesero, a Tanzanian national studying Arts, Culture, and Film, walking from his seventh-floor room to the 11th-floor around 3am.
Security guards discovered his body on the ground in the morning. Detectives from the Kasarani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Mberesero suffered a fractured skull, along with broken legs and arms.
Kasarani DCI boss Justus Ombati said crime scene investigators had recovered the five-page document.
Police recorded a statement from a female student who was among the last to see Mberesero before his death. An officer familiar with the investigation said she told investigators he had shown signs of distress.
