In a statement shared on Saturday, June 28, the investigative unit stated they were able to intercept the suspects through an intelligence-led operation.
"John Mulingwa Nzau alias Garang, Mark Amiani alias Generali, and Francis Mutunge Mwangi alias Chebukati were flushed from a Mombasa-bound bus at the Konza City section, following an in-depth forensic investigation triggered by testimonies from concerned and affected citizens," the DCI statement read in part.
The DCI further claimed that the three allegedly used their social media platforms to incite goons to violence, theft and destruction of property.
The detectives stated that the suspects' actions propagated a narrative that undermined he stability of the country and the constitutionally protected right that allows Kenyans to peacefully protest.
According to the DCI, the suspects and others who were yet to be arrested had planned to move to a hideout in the coastal region in order to keep themselves from being arrested. However, the DCI moved fast to arrest and take them into custody.
"The DCI condemns the actions of the three mobilizers, which reflected deliberate intention to cause violence that saw businesses looted and persons injured, a subversive action that contradicts the logic and intentions of the general public to exercise a protected right," DCI added.
The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday, June 30, on grounds of malicious damage to property, arson, stealing and incitement to violence and disobedience of the law.
