Mya Lynn Lesnar, Brock Lesnar's Daughter, Secures NCAA Shot Put Championship

Published 2 weeks ago3 minute read

The athletic prowess of the Lesnar family continues to shine, as Mya Lesnar, daughter of the legendary WWE superstar and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar, recently clinched the NCAA Division I women's shot put crown. The Colorado State senior secured her first outdoor track and field national title on Friday, adding a significant achievement to her already impressive collegiate resume. This victory follows her earlier success in the 2023-24 season, where she earned the indoor shot put title.

Lesnar's path to the outdoor championship was dominant. Despite finishing fourth at nationals in the indoor season and being unable to defend her indoor title earlier this year, she approached the outdoor competition with remarkable determination. Her very first throw soared to an impressive 19.01 meters (62 feet, 4.5 inches), a mark that no other competitor came close to reaching throughout the remainder of the meet. This decisive opening throw set the tone for her victory, preventing any real challenge to her lead.

Reflecting on her performance, Lesnar stated, "It was pretty cool. Obviously, throws like that don't happen often. To do it on my first one is pretty cool. It meant more to me to do it on the first one and start the competition strong." Earlier in the season, she achieved a career-best throw of 19.60 meters (64 feet, 3.75 inches), which currently stands as the seventh-longest throw by a woman this year. Her consistent excellence has also earned her selections to both the indoor and outdoor All-Mountain West teams for the past three years, in addition to winning the conference's weight throw title during the 2023-24 indoor season.

Mya's triumph echoes the legacy of her father, Brock Lesnar, who himself was a collegiate national champion. Brock Lesnar won the NCAA wrestling championship in the 285-pound category while at the University of Minnesota in 2000. Following his collegiate success, he quickly rose to prominence in professional wrestling, becoming an instant sensation in WWE and the youngest person to hold the company's main title belt at the age of 25, just two years after his debut. His decorated career includes headlining WrestleMania five times and SummerSlam nine times, alongside winning 10 world titles within the company. Furthermore, Brock Lesnar made a successful transition to mixed martial arts, capturing the UFC heavyweight championship in just his third professional fight by defeating Randy Couture at UFC 91.

Mya Lesnar's NCAA championship victory underscores the potent athletic heritage of the Lesnar family, demonstrating that the "Lesnar genes" continue to reign supreme in the world of high-level competition.
