This follows a recent agreement between Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance.
In a gazette notice seen by Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu stated that ANC, during its Special National Delegates Congress on Friday, February 7, resolved to dissolve voluntarily in accordance with its constitution.
" Pursuant to sections 9 and 34C of the Political Parties Act Cap 7D and paragraph 22 of the second schedule to Political Parties Act. It is notified for the information of the general public that Amani National Congress stands dissolved," the notice read in part.
On Friday, January 17, UDA Chair Cecily Mbarire announced the party’s move to merge with Mudavadi’s ANC.
Mbarire, who also serves as Embu governor, said the party would rebrand with a new name, colours, and logo while integrating the identity of the merged entity.
She said the new party would reflect a national outlook and integrate ANC’s ideals and leadership.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki were appointed as the party's deputy leaders.
Kevin Lunani assumed the role of vice chairperson, while Emuhaya MP Omboko Milema was named deputy secretary-general.
She stated that ANC's entire secretariat and staff would be integrated to work alongside their counterparts.
The announcement comes days after some ANC leaders from the Western region opposed the party’s merger with Ruto’s UDA.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, January 21, party officials criticized Mudavadi, accusing him of making the key decision without consulting them.
The leaders, clearly disappointed, vowed to distance themselves from the political move made by Mudavadi.
The officials expressed that they had high hopes for their party leader, envisioning him as the country’s president someday.
They suggested that the recent political developments indicated Mudavadi is focused on personal gains rather than the presidency.
