Mumias East MP Peter Salasya is expected to hold a major homecoming ceremony in Kakamega on Saturday, June 7, after a month-long nationwide tour, which he said is aimed at boosting his 2027 presidential bid.

Salasya, who has declared interest in running for president in the next general election, has been traversing various parts of the country, including Eastern, Mt Kenya, Rift Valley, Coast, and Maasai regions such as Narok and Kajiado.

The MP began his tour on May 1 in Busia County and has since visited multiple counties in what he has termed a “meet-the-people” initiative.

His activities have attracted public attention and sparked debate over both his political ambitions and the funding of his travel.

While confirming the upcoming event on a phone call, he said he was ready for Saturday in his home town.

“I will be in town by 2.00 pm, whether it rains or not. I have been away for too long, and I miss Western,” he said.

Salasya also posted on his official Instagram page on June 4.

“On Saturday, 7, I miss Kakamega, I miss Shianda, I miss Mumias, and I miss Western Kenya. The son of the soil has traversed the terrain… and he is ready to unravel the belief beyond,” said Salasya.

During his tour, Salasya was arrested and charged in court over hate speech allegations, amid what the government has described as a broader crackdown on incitement.

He has since denied any wrongdoing and continued with his political engagements.

His countrywide trips have also raised questions online about how he finances his activities.

Some social media users have expressed scepticism, pointing to a payslip he previously shared that showed a modest net salary.

Responding to the concerns in a May 31 Instagram post, Salasya dismissed claims that he is being funded by external sources or the state.

“I have no children in international schools or a family to take on expensive vacations because I’m not married… so my money doesn’t have many responsibilities,” he wrote.
