Monsoon to arrive in state on schedule: Met
Patna: Southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Bihar from Purnia district on its usual dates, between June 13 and June 14, bringing moisture-laden winds to the region. This is in contrast to Kerala, where a delay in the monsoon's onset has been observed.According to forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bihar is likely to receive above-normal rainfall in June. The state's average rainfall for the month typically stands at 59.1mm. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are projected to exceed normal levels in some northeastern districts while remaining below average in other parts of the state. Daytime temperatures in June usually range between 34°C and 36°C.The IMD's extended forecast, released on Sunday, also indicates a 40% probability that minimum temperatures will remain above normal across most of Bihar.
The usual range for minimum temperatures in June is 28°C to 30°C.Ashish Kumar Singh, head of the Patna Meteorological Centre, said current conditions are not favourable for an early advance of the monsoon. "We are expecting that the monsoon will arrive on its usual time on May 13 and May 14. It is predicted that the state is likely to receive above-normal rainfall in June," he said.Singh added that temperatures have already begun to rise.
"Rain activity will decrease. After two to three days, thunderstorm activity will also reduce and the westerlies will remain strong, so the temperature will rise," he said. The IMD has forecast that temperatures could reach 40°C in the next three days. The weather will remain predominantly dry across the state with only one or two isolated spells of rain expected in northern Bihar. Minimum temperatures are projected to remain between 26°C and 30°C till June 7.On Sunday, Patna recorded the state's highest temperature at 40.6°C while the lowest minimum temperature of 24.6°C was observed at Valmiki Nagar.
