KOCHI: Since the early onset of the southwest monsoon on May 24, the state as a whole recorded nearly 40cm of rainfall till May 30, which is 5.7 times the normal rainfall of 7cm during this period.
Kannur recorded the highest rainfall (63cm) among districts, followed by Kozhikode with 58.1cm and Idukki with 45.5cm.IMD had forecast that rainfall during the southwest monsoon from June to Sept is most likely to be above normal for south peninsular India. One fisherman died and another went missing after a boat capsized off Vizhinjam fishing harbour in Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased is Antony (52), while a search operation is underway to trace the missing fisherman, Stellas (48). In Kottayam, two men, Joby V J (36) and Arun Sam (37), died when the country boat on which they were fishing capsized, fire and rescue officials said.
