Monarchs and All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders of Kwara North extraction have gone spiritual in the agitation to shift the governorship seat to the district in 2027.

Kwara North has not produced the governor since 1999.

Accordingly, APC stakeholders, clergymen, Islamic clerics and traditional rulers last weekend converged on Bode-Saadu, Moro Local Government, to offer prayers for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

They equally asked God to endorse their desire of producing the next governor.

It was at an interdenominational prayer organised by stakeholders of Moro Council.

Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of the event, Oba of Jebba, Alhaji Abdulkadir Adebara, craved for the unity of Kwara northerners to attract development to the area.

The monarch urged other districts (Kwara South and Central) to concede the seat of power in the state in 2027 to Kwara North for equity, fairness and justice.

Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Prince Ibrahim Adebara, the monarch said: “We are earnestly seeking power to shift to the senatorial district in 2027. Moro is part of Kwara North. If we are able to secure the governorship ticket, we are confident Moro will get one of the National Assembly seats.

“We believe our brothers and sisters in the two other senatorial districts are partners in progress. Therefore, we urge them to concede the governorship seat to us. They should also rally round Moro Local Government to secure a seat in the National Assembly.”

A chieftain of APC from Shao Ward and a stakeholder in Kwara project, Dr Bolaji Afolabi, said the programme was aimed to pray for and thank President Tinubu in his efforts on the basis of Renewed Hope Agenda to change the narrative of governance in Nigeria.

“We also want to appreciate the governor for steering the ship of governance in the state well and for following the footsteps of the president.”

He, however, added that “what is paramount to us is the Kwara project. In this Kwara project, there is a serious clamour for a shift of governorship seat to Kwara North. The agitation does not start today. It came forth from what we know as Kwara project.

“It is a known fact and we believe we have been shortchanged in Kwara North. We never had it and we believe Kwara belongs to all of us.

“Personally, in Moro Local Government, exactly what is happening to Kwara North in the bigger Kwara is happening to Moro in the smaller Kwara North. From 1999 to date, Moro has not produced a National Assembly member.”

Speaking with our correspondent, Special Adviser to Governor AbdulRazaq on Party Affairs, Moshood Alaka, said: “We are offering prayers for our president, governor and for Kwara North to get the governorship seat in 2027. We are also praying for Moro Local Government to secure a seat in the National Assembly.

“For fairness, equity and justice, Kwara North deserves the governorship seat. At the end of Governor AbdulRazaq’s tenure, Kwara Central would have been in the saddle for 20 years and has had it for eight years since 1999.

“We are urging our brothers and sisters in the two other senatorial districts to give us opportunity in 2027. We are one family. We are praying to God to give us a seat either at the House Representatives or Senate. We are not specific in Moro.”
