Mobile awareness van launched for dengue prevention in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister Veena George flagged off a mobile awareness van dedicated to spread dengue awareness within the corporation limits.The van will display informative videos about dengue, highlighting what individuals can do at their homes and institutions to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

As part of monsoon preparedness, the health department, in collaboration with local self-govt institutions, has intensified awareness efforts in all districts as part of the national dengue campaign.Speaking at the event, minister emphasised the need for keeping caution against dengue due to climate change. All local institutions and the public should focus on source eradication, she said. There should be no stagnant water inside or outside homes or institutions.

Family health centres across the state were equipped with the necessary training and facilities to ensure proper treatment and care. The minister urged people not to self-medicate if they have fever.

People with infections should seek medical help, she said.As part of pre-monsoon cleaning activities, source eradication efforts are ongoing in the city with the participation of local self-govt institutions, the public and other volunteer organisations. Special activities are scheduled for May 23 and May 30. Additionally, a special dry day should be observed in every home and institution. With schools reopening, attention should also be given to schools and their surroundings, the minister said.
