His burial, held on Saturday, February 22, in Nduu Village, Kaiti Constituency, was marked by sorrow, outrage, and calls for justice amid growing concerns over extrajudicial killings and police impunity.

Mwau, who leaves behind a young widow and three children, was reportedly abducted alongside Justus Mutumwa, whose body was also later found.

Meanwhile, two of their friends, Stephen Mbisi and Kalani Mwema, remain missing nearly two months after their disappearance.

The funeral saw emotional scenes as family members and mourners broke down in tears, demanding answers from authorities. Mwau’s grieving mother questioned why her son had to die in such a brutal manner.

"We are left with nothing but pain and unanswered questions. If they wanted him, why didn’t they take him to court? Why kill him like an animal?" she lamented.

The burial ceremony quickly turned into a platform for defiance, with political leaders condemning the government and security forces.

Makueni senator Dan Maanzo, who had been pushing for the missing men to be accounted for—dead or alive—criticised the authorities for failing to take responsibility.

"When they were taken to the mortuary, the police knew where they had taken them. The government knows where the remaining two are—whether detained or dead. I urge them to inform us so that these families can have closure. Martin has been found, but the question remains—who killed him?" Maanzo said.

Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu echoed his sentiments, calling on the government to stop pretending it does not know who was responsible.

"The government knows who killed Martin, and we demand to know those responsible and please stop being pretentious," Kimilu warned.

A post-mortem examination conducted at the mortuary revealed that Mwau had suffered a violent death.

His body bore evidence of restraint, with deep tissue damage in the neck area, particularly affecting the strap muscles, indicating manual compression.

In addition, multiple blunt force injuries were found on his head and abdomen, suggesting he had been beaten before being fatally strangled.
