Mixed reaction as new leading contender for Brentford job emerges after Thomas Frank's exit

Published 23 hours ago5 minute read

Ipswich fans might feel slight relief at seeing Keith Andrews being top of the bookies favourites to replace Frank, with Kieran McKenna moving down into second for the time being at least.

Andrews, a former Ipswich midfielder and Brentford’s set-piece coach under Frank, who failed to get the MK Dons job just a few months ago, is currently at 1/9 odds with Sky Bet.

Andrews, who stayed at Brentford after Frank’s departure, is poised to step up as manager. But some Brentford fans aren’t convinced he will be the new man in charge going into the 2025/26 season.

We go back to the 12th of June, when it was claimed that Brentford and Tottenham were waiting on Justin Cochrane decision on his next move.

“Brentford have offered him the manager role while Spurs want him to join as Franks staff

“If he joins Spurs then Brentford will turn attention to Kieran McKenna & Scott Parker.”

Later that day, they added: “Justin Cochrane has decided to join Thomas Frank at Spurs despite being wanted by Brentford as per @David_Ornstein

“Brentford now looking at Kieran McKenna as #1 target, Scott Parker on shortlist but remains happy at Burnley.”

On the 13th, another update: “Scott Parker informs Brentford of his desire to stay at Burnley.

“Brentford’s favourite is Kieran McKenna, no formal decision or offer has been made yet by either club or Kieran, initial talks with Keith Andrews and Kjetli Knutsen have also been held.”

Then later that day: “Scott Parker informs Brentford of his desire to stay at Burnley.

But going into the weekend, reports stated that “Brentford were expected to make Keith Andrews their new manager following Thomas Frank leaving for Spurs.

“He’s as short as 1/9 to get the job at the Premier League side.”

: Bold is definitely the word that comes to mind

: What an uninspiring list

: Their biggest decision in years and they’re potentially going as risky as this????

: And if this is true then I look forward to the championship again 😭😭

: Christ, this next season is gonna be a long depressing one. Surely we can do better than this?!?

: I’m going to refuse to believe it until it’s officially announced. We’d be accepting relegation with him.

: That’s a pretty woeful list. Hope we’ve got someone off the radar lined up…

: Hate to say it, relegation candidates if true. Losing Frank, Mbuemo and even Wissa will be a disaster

: we’re not appointing our set piece coach as head coach, how desperate are we? 😭

: Please clarify, are these talks with Keith Andrews just to keep him as set piece coach? Because if he’s been interviewed as a candidate for manager we might as well liquidate 😭

: Terzic the likely candidate? McKenna links seem to have gone dry which would be a win win for both us & you lot.

: Terzic would be phenomenal but I’m not convinced he’d come here, I’d be surprised whatever happens if we appointed someone from England though, suspect it’ll be someone from abroad

@Lancsiron: Is it the end for the @BrentfordFC ride? Surely they have been planning for when he got poached?

@thesoopabees: Big loss for us considering this was the long term replacement to Thomas Frank but then do I blame him being a Spurs fan to be assistant manager at a club he started his coaching career at? Not really. McKenna staying at Ipswich not too upset Keith Andrews is a very bizarre appointment if we do go for him. At least Cochrane had a CV to work with. Andrews or Scott Parker is like asking which of my arms to cut off. Shocking choices. I find it so funny we’ve gone from We wouldn’t take McKenna to McKenna being the best option Then we also thought Scott Parker was bad. If you’re asking me who to choose from out of Claus fucking Norgaard, Keith Andrews and Scott Parker I’d genuinely take Scott Parker. We’ve really reached a new low

Who do you want? For me, the answer is clear: I want Kjetil Knutsen if he wants us @BrentfordFC #BFC
