Microsoft Build 2025 developer conference announced: Dates, what to expect and more

Microsoft

has confirmed that its annual

developer conference

, Build, will be held in Seattle, US in May at the

Seattle Convention Center

. The tech giant took to social media platform X (earlier Twitter) to make this announcement. However, Microsoft has yet to reveal specific details about the event's agenda, it is expected to be heavily focused on

artificial intelligence

(AI).

The company is expected to follow the trend from last year's conference, which featured announcements about AI agents, an AI-powered Windows clipboard tool and a Snapdragon-based mini PC.

Announcing the event, Microsoft shared a teaser video and wrote: “We’re building a new path forward. Come join us at #MSBuild, May 19 – 22, 2025.”

Microsoft Build 2024 took place just days after the unveiling of Qualcomm-powered Copilot Plus PCs at a special Windows and Surface AI event. Rumours claim that Microsoft is expected to announce a smaller

Surface Pro

and

Surface Laptop

this year. If the speculations are to be true, the company may debut new Surface hardware around the same time once again in 2025.
Microsoft is also expected to make a significant number of announcements related to Copilot at Build. This includes the consumer version of the

Microsoft 365 Copilot

which is designed for businesses and comes with a subscription.
The company recently relaunched Copilot for businesses, introducing free AI chat and pay-as-you-go agents as it continues its efforts to convince businesses about the importance of AI agents.
Additionally, Microsoft has also started bundling Office AI features into Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions. The company is also expected to share more details about its Office and Windows AI ambitions at this year’s Build event.
Last week, Microsoft also expanded its Surface lineup with Intel-powered variants of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7. Both are classified as Copilot+ PCs for businesses and are set to launch on February 18.
These models will allow businesses to choose between Intel’s Lunar Lake processors and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series chips while maintaining the same design.
