Metz named Assistant Basketball Coach at Hofstra - HoopDirt
Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Speedy Claxton announced today the addition of Drew Metz as an assistant coach with the Pride basketball program.
Metz brings a strong track record of success at the collegiate, high school, and grassroots levels.
“We’re thrilled to have Drew join our staff,” said Claxton. “He is a rising star in the coaching world and brings great energy, experience, and a winning mindset that will be a huge asset to our program.”
Prior to Hofstra, Metz spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Marist, where he played a pivotal role in the program’s resurgence. During his tenure, the Red Foxes reached their first MAAC Championship game in 2023, earned their best tournament seed in 16 years, and recorded their highest win totals in nearly two decades. In recognition of his impact, Metz was named to Silver Waves Media’s “75 Rising Stars: Impactful Men’s Mid-Major Assistants” in 2023. His responsibilities included opponent scouting, player development, recruiting strategy, and leading individual skill workouts across multiple positions.
While at Marist, Metz assisted in the recruitment of two student-athletes who were All-MAAC honorees in Josh Pascarelli (first team) and Patrick Gardner (second team).
Before his time at Marist, Metz was an assistant basketball coach at Long Island Lutheran High School (LuHi) for five years, where he helped guide the team to a New York State “AA” Federation Championship and multiple national Top 25 finishes.
He also served as Program Director and 17U Head Coach for the NY Jayhawks (Adidas 3SSB), assisting more than 50 student-athletes in the college recruitment process.
A native of Deer Park, New York, Metz earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sports management from St. John’s University, where he began his career as a student manager and administrative assistant with the men’s basketball program.
