SNY on YouTube: Cards 6 Mets 1 Game Highlights
NY Daily News: Mets’ healthy starters give reason for optimism amid rash of rotation injuries. "Tylor Megill became the latest Mets pitcher to deliver a solid spring debut, holding a St. Louis Cardinals lineup featuring many of its regulars to one run over 2.1 innings in Tuesday’s 6-1 loss in Jupiter, Fla. The hulking right-hander hit 98 mph with his fastball and threw 31 of his 47 pitches for strikes."

The Mets have placed right-hander Sean Reid-Foley on outright waivers, according to sources. It's a step toward removing him from the 40-man roster, but it leaves him exposed to a claim from another team.
Reid-Foley missed much of last season due to shoulder issues.

3/4/2025 Mets Roster Moves - Sproat, Tidwell, Jett, Clifford and 9 others assigned to Minor League Camp
Joel Sherman NY Post Sports+: Michael King knows why Clay Holmes’ starting move will work out. Joel Quotes Kink saying this about Holmes: “He’s the type who can take all the new-school teaching and add it to his arsenal. The big thing is going to be as a reliever he could throw his sinker 97-100 (mph) and it is unhittable. Now, as a starter, you have to realize you can throw it at 94. You don’t need 98. You can save that for the fifth or sixth inning when you really need it.” (subscription required)
NY Post: Mets place veteran reliever Sean Reid-Foley on outright waivers. "The Mets have placed the righty reliever on outright waivers, a source confirmed, which allows other teams to claim him and assume his $800,000 salary for 2025. If Reid-Foley is not claimed, he would be removed from the 40-man roster and could be outrighted to the minors."
Will Sammon The Athletic: Mets’ Pete Alonso dove deep into swing mechanics: ‘Best I’ve ever seen him’. "From a technical standpoint, Alonso learned the importance of his hips as a power source, New York Mets co-hitting coach Eric Chavez said...“It’s the best I’ve ever seen him. I’m very, very optimistic that Pete is going to have a monster year,” Chavez said. “I’m not trying to put pressure on him. But as good as he looks right now — and he’s going to maintain his routine — it’s going to be a pretty special year for him.” (subscription required)
Jon Heyman NY Post Sports+: Mets’ injuries shouldn’t obscure growing list of spring positives. Here are the top 5 of the 13 Jon positives Jon notes: 1. Kodai Senga was “really poppin’ ” in his spring debut, according to a scout. 2. David Peterson figuratively “hit it out of the park,” pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said of his Grapefruit League debut 3. Clay Holmes is making the transition to the rotation look easy. 4. Max Kranick reinvented himself last year, and this late bloomer looks like he has a chance to shine in the bullpen. 5. Pitching prospect Blade Tidwell created a stir already. (subscription required)
Tim Healey Newsday: Mets like MLB's experiment with ball/strike challenge system. "MLB’s spring training experiment — an automated ball/strike challenge system in the majors for the first time — has drawn positive reviews from Mets personnel, from manager Carlos Mendoza to Pete Alonso to minor-leaguers already familiar with the arrangement. During some Grapefruit League games, including all contests at the Mets’ Clover Park, the batter, catcher or pitcher can challenge individual balls and strikes called by the plate umpire. If a team keeps getting calls overturned, it can keep challenging. If a team is wrong twice in a game, it can’t challenge anymore.

Born on this date:
1972 | Jim Fregosi, obtained by the Mets from the Angels in the off-season for future Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, breaks his right thumb during a spring training workout. The All-Star infielder will suffer through an agonizing season, batting only .232 in 101 games, after being touted as the team's solution to its revolving door at third base. |
