Megan Thee Stallion's Legal Team Responds to Tory Lanez Allegations
Megan Thee Stallion's legal team has issued strong responses to what they characterize as a continued campaign of misinformation by Tory Lanez's representatives concerning his 2022 conviction for shooting Megan. Her team asserts that Lanez's camp is attempting to sway public opinion by peddling false narratives and rehashing old evidence, despite overwhelming proof of his guilt presented during the trial.
Alex Spiro, Megan Thee Stallion's attorney, directly addressed the shifting stories from Lanez's team. "Tory Lanez's team can't keep a story straight," Spiro stated. "Last week, they argued that Kelsey Harris shot Megan and now, they're claiming that Megan only stepped on glass. They continue to rehash old evidence from trial and re-package it as new information to desperately sway public opinion." Spiro also criticized Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna's involvement, describing it as an attempt to integrate herself into the California criminal justice system for "click-bait" rather than focusing on her constituents.
The narratives from Tory Lanez's team have reportedly evolved. Initial claims pointed to Kelsey Harris as the shooter, allegedly supported by Lanez's bodyguard. More recently, reports suggest Lanez's team is promoting a theory that Megan Thee Stallion merely stepped on glass, or citing alleged new body-cam footage featuring a witness who supposedly saw Kelsey Harris shoot Megan. Lanez's team has also launched a new website and promoted footage purportedly claiming his innocence.
In response, Megan Thee Stallion's legal representatives have emphasized that no new credible evidence has been introduced since Lanez's conviction. They argue that Lanez's team is simply repackaging information already presented and adjudicated during the trial. A comprehensive presentation previously released by Megan's team aimed to dismantle these false narratives and reaffirm the existing evidence.
Key pieces of evidence from the trial underscore Lanez's conviction. This includes text messages Lanez sent to Megan on July 12, 2020, at 8:59 pm, in which he acknowledged the shooting and apologized to her. Furthermore, Lanez himself had previously contradicted the narrative that Kelsey Harris was the shooter in an Instagram comment on The Shade Room, where he publicly stated Harris was not responsible.
Claims of new Ring camera footage have also been refuted. The existing Ring camera footage, which was admitted as evidence during the trial and played for the jury, captured the sound of five gunshots. DNA evidence further implicated Lanez, as testing on the firearm established a 90% probability that the DNA found belonged to a man. Lanez's DNA was specifically found on the weapon.
Both Megan Thee Stallion and Kelsey Harris testified under oath during the trial that Tory Lanez offered each of them a bribe of $1,000,000 for their silence following the shooting incident. This testimony regarding the alleged hush money was a significant part of the prosecution's case.
During the trial, Tory Lanez declined to testify in his own defense. Additionally, his legal team chose not to call his driver and bodyguard, Jaquan Smith, to testify. The Los Angeles Police Department, through senior property officer Marin Preciado's testimony, confirmed that the LAPD continues to retain possession of the firearm and the bullet fragments recovered from the incident.
In a more recent development, Tory Lanez was reportedly transferred to a new correctional facility in Northern California. This transfer followed an incident where he was allegedly attacked and stabbed multiple times. He is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
