Sandhya Devanathan is a prominent figure in the business world and currently serves as the head of Meta India. She is the Vice President and Managing Director of Meta India. Under her leadership, the company has achieved significant growth in the Indian market. Sandhya joined Meta in 2016 as a Group Director, SEA – E-commerce, Travel, and Financial Services, in Singapore. In August, she became the Managing Director for Meta’s Singapore business and the Business Head for Vietnam. Let’s learn more about Sandhya Devanathan.
Sandhya completed her Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering at Andhra University from 1994 to 1998. Then she moved to Delhi to pursue an MBA at Delhi University from 1998 to 2000. In 2014, she attended the University of Oxford for a leadership course.
Devanathan, with 22 years of experience in the fields of banking, payments, and technology, became part of Meta in 2016. She played a significant role in developing the company’s operations and teams in Singapore and Vietnam, along with its e-commerce projects in Southeast Asia. In 2020, she transitioned to oversee gaming in the Asia-Pacific region.
She also worked with Citigroup, and Standard Chartered. She performed several roles With Citi, she worked in various positions from May 2000 to December 2009, while she worked with Standard Chartered from December 2009 to December 2015.
Meta is implementing job cuts referred to as ‘performance terminations,’ targeting the lowest-performing 5 percent of its workforce. In contrast to past layoffs, the company plans to keep its offices operational on the day of the cuts and will not issue a company-wide announcement. These layoffs will occur globally, although employees in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands will be excluded due to local laws. Notifications will be distributed to staff in more than a dozen countries throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa between February 11 and February 18.
Despite recent job cuts, Meta is prioritizing the recruitment of machine learning engineers and other essential positions. A memo from Peng Fan, the VP of Engineering for Monetization, indicates that the hiring process will be accelerated from February 11 to March 13, underscoring Meta’s focus on AI development for 2025.
