McDonalds Australia news: 'Need to drop nationwide ASAP': Macca's adds new breakfast item to all stores after trial - 9Kitchen
Fancy something sweet and savoury for breakfast?
Macca's has announced the arrival of a new item to its Breakfast Menu in Australia, after a successful trial in select stores earlier this year.
McGriddles will be available in stores nationwide starting July 9 after becoming popular in stores across the globe – but what on earth is this bizarre breakfast treat, you ask?
A McGriddle is "two warm maple-infused pancakes" sandwiched with several delicious brekkie favs.
They come in three varieties:
The breakfast item quickly went viral across the globe, with a number of influencers taking to their socials to give it a firm thumbs up.
One Aussie fan said McGriddles "need to drop nationwide ASAP" after trying them.
TikToker Adrian Widjy said his "prayer had been answered" when he found them at his local McDonald's outlet at Kingsford in Sydney.
While one of his followers thought the "concept" of a McGriddle was "gross", others argued "they are delicious".
"Best in the world," another boldly said.
One TikToker confessed to having made their version of a McGriddle by placing a "sausage patty with my hotcakes".
Food blogger What The Haloumi said the McGriddle reminded her of "sweet salty popcorn".
She miraculously sampled hers while having her dog on her lap.
One of her followers from Canada said the McGriddle has been a "staple item on our McDonald's menu for a long time". Another said they have been "available in the UK for a long time too" as well as in America.
They have also been sold in Japan and Hong Kong.
"They were my pregnancy craving," one woman said.
Amanda Nakad, Marketing Director of Menu and Brand for McDonald's Australia said: "Our Aussie fans are obsessed over the sweet and savoury flavours of McGriddles when we trialed it earlier this year.
"Safe to say, we got the message and gave our iconic breakfast menu a glow up by adding it to the national menu.
"The McGriddles range joins our other main characters: crispy hash browns, toasted McMuffins, cracked eggs, and the new rich and round McCafé blend which hit restaurants last month."
The new range is available along with the rest of McDonald's breakfast menu until 10.30am.
News of the new addition to the Breakfast Menu comes after 2GB's Ben Fordham reported McDonald's Australia's plans to open 30-50 new stores across the country as well as consider adding a range of new products to its permanent menu.
McDonalds Australia has been contacted for comment to confirm this news.
If true, this could include more chicken items after the successful addition of Chicken McWings to the permanent menu from June 11 along with the signature Spicy Buffalo Sauce.
McDonald's says this is the beginning of a "golden era of chicken" at Macca's.
CEO of McDonald's Australia, Joe Chiczewski, also announced on Friday that the fast food chain would be locking in the prices of some of its popular menu items for the next 12 months.
The McSmart Meal is now locked in at $7 for the next year and Loose Change Menu items will remain at $4 and under as part of the fast food giant's "price promise".
"My commitment to Australian customers is clear, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, you can count on us for great value at Macca's," Chiczewski said.
The $7 McSmart Meal includes two burgers, fries, and a drink. Instead of a second burger, customers can also choose three nuggets or a sundae instead.
The Loose Change Menu will also be locked in at $4 and under, including the $4 Sausage McMuffins, $2 Hamburgers, Frozen Cokes from $1, and the iconic 50-cent soft serve cone.
