Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has revoked the appointment of the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB) member Stephen Ogenga just months after he was appointed for a period of three years.

In a gazette notice of March 7, 2025, Mbadi revealed that Ogenga’s removal from the board takes effect immediately.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 15 (1) (c) of the Accountants Act, 2008, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, revokes the appointment of Stephen Ogenga as a Member of the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries Examination Board, with effect from the 7th March 2025,” the gazette notice read.

Ogenga was appointed as a board member of KASNEB on Friday, December 13, 2024, alongside other colleagues on the board including Elizabeth Muvui, Philip Kakai, Joshua Wambua, Judy Warui-Omurwa, Percy Opiyo, Samantha Kipury, and Joseph Kanyi.

At the same time, the Treasury CS equally appointed Percy Opiyo and Joseph Kanyi as the chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the examination board respectively.

Ogenga who was reinstated as the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Director General in April 2024, had been suspended in connection with the irregular procurement process at the state corporation.

He was put on half salary before he pleaded with NITA, stating that he was not an accounting officer at the time when the procurement was done.

“A declaration is hereby issued that the decision of the 1st respondent to interdict the petitioner from his employment as the Director General of the 1st respondent by a letter dated November 24, 2023, is unlawful and unfair,” the court ruled.

He was reinstated as the court directed the authority to foot the cost of the suit and repay him withheld salary and benefits from the time of his interdiction in November 2023 by NITA chairman Aden Noor Ali.

KASNEB is a state corporation operating under the Treasury as the examination body of the Certified Public Accountants and Certified Public Secretaries for the Certified Secretaries (CS) qualification.

The principal activities of KASNEB are the development of syllabuses, conduct of professional, diploma and technician examinations and certification of candidates in accountancy, finance, credit, governance and management, information technology and related disciplines, the promotion of its qualifications nationally and internationally and the accreditation of relevant training institutions.
