May 20 is looking to be a very busy day for , as many games will be both entering and leaving the subscription service catalog. On that day, a number of new games will be added to the game catalog available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium-tier subscribers, while other titles will leave and become inaccessible to those who don't opt to purchase them separately.
To keep PlayStation Plus subscribers tuned in to the service's offerings, Sony staggers out updates to the game catalog throughout each month. For players at the PS Plus Essential tier, the May 2025 free PS Plus games were made available on May 6, including Balatro, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, and Ark: Survival Ascended. Players at the more expensive Extra and Premium tiers have to wait until the middle of the month to see what they're getting in terms of game catalog updates, free trials, and premium game streaming.

Since relaunching the subscription service in June 2022, Sony has added a host of games per month to PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium.
PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers will be getting a mix of recent and high-end titles with a lot of play potential. Not only are subscribers getting access to the World War 2-themed Battlefield 5, but they're also getting Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the updated edition of the popular Arc System Works fighting game. Sand Land is a sci-fi action RPG based on a series by the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, while the beloved early STALKER games are collected in the Legends of the Zone Trilogy to serve as a prequel of sorts to STALKER 2. Other PS Plus Extra games for May 2025 include Five Nights At Freddy's: Help Wanted Full Time Edition, Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition, Humankind, Soul Hackers 2,and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.
Premium Tier
Additions to the Premium-tier catalog tend to take the form of classic pre-PS4 titles available via the exclusive game streaming feature. This month's addition is Battle Engine Aquila, a somewhat obscure mech action game that has players piloting a massive, towering Battle Engine robot across a teeming battlefield full of enemy soldiers and vehicles to destroy. Like other games with transforming mecha, the Battle Engine can transition between a walking mech mode and flying jet mode, with multiple battle engine types that accommodate different play styles.
Earlier in the month, some PS Plus subscribers were disappointed to learn that a whopping 22 games will leave the PS Plus game catalog on May 20, including a number of first-party Sony games like Resistance 2 and Infamous Second Son. Other classics like Batman: Arkham Knight, Grand Theft Auto 5, and even VR-exclusive titles like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners are getting removed from the subscription catalog on that day, and will need to be purchased to play.
- Portal Knights
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Resistance 2
- Stranded: Alien Dawn
- Synth Riders
- The LEGO Movie 2 Video Game
- The Sims 4: Island Living
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
- The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution
- Walkabout Mini Golf
After May 20, PS Plus subscribers should look forward to the end of the month, around May 28, as that will be the next likely reveal of the June 2025 batch of PS Plus free games. Once detailed, those games should become accessible on June 3, the first Tuesday of the month.
