Matazu takes new role at ECOWAS Commission

African Centre of Meteorological Application for Development (ACMAD) has congratulated Prof. Mansur Matazu on his new appointment at the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission.

Matazu, who is now based at the ECOWAS Disaster Operations Centre in Abuja, Nigeria, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. Before his appointment, Matazur served as an expert in Climate Services Applications at ACMAD, where he contributed to the development and implementation of climate services for the benefit of African countries.

His work at ACMAD focused on providing critical climate information and services to support decision-making in various sectors, including agriculture, health, and disaster risk reduction.

Before joining ACMAD, Matazu held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), where he played a key role in shaping the country’s meteorological services.

ACMAD expressed its confidence in Matazu’s technical expertise and experience, which will enable him to make a significant contribution to strengthening disaster risk reduction and climate resilience in West Africa.
