A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has remanded a man, Azeez Tajudeen, in the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Facility over allegations of defiling a six-year-old girl, who later passed away.

Justice Rahman Oshodi issued the remand order following Tajudeen’s arraignment on a two-count amended charge of defilement and involuntary manslaughter, brought against him by the Lagos State government. The charges contravene Sections 137 and 224, and are punishable under Section 229, Ch.C17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The prosecuting counsel, Dare Dada, informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on October 9, 2023, around 4:00 p.m. in the Morcas area of Ayobo, Lagos.

Tajudeen pleaded not guilty to both counts. As the defendant had no legal representation, a lawyer, Nosa Emmanuel, volunteered to defend him in court and requested that the defendant be remanded pending the commencement of the trial.

Justice Oshodi granted the request, remanding Tajudeen in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) at Kirikiri, Lagos.

The case was adjourned to September 30, 2025, for hearing.
