A 25-year-old man, Nicholas Apotei, has allegedly died by suicide in Edwenase, Ashanti Region, following the end of a romantic relationship. According to reports from Accra-based dailyguidenetwork.com, Nicholas was reportedly unable to cope with the heartbreak after his girlfriend, identified as Perpetual from Bekwai, terminated their relationship approximately one week prior to the incident.

The discovery of Nicholas's body was made around 10:00 AM on May 24, 2025. His friend, Oliver Donkor of Edwenase, reported the incident to the Mamponteng District Police. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Nicholas deceased in his kitchen. It is alleged that he used a sponge tied into a noose and fastened to a ceiling fan to hang himself.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Mamponteng Police revealed that Nicholas had been deeply distressed by the breakup. Despite efforts from others to console him or help him reconcile with Perpetual, he remained devastated and had allegedly made threats to end his life. The police report detailed that Nicholas was found wearing white shorts and a singlet. His iPhone 16 Pro Max was discovered on the kitchen cabinet, positioned to face him. It was also noted that his feet were touching the ground, and a kitchen stool was found nearby.

An inspection of the body by police indicated no signs of assault. However, his neck was observed to be swollen, and his tongue was protruding. Following the discovery, Nicholas Apotei's body was transported to a morgue for an autopsy. The police have since invited Perpetual to assist with their ongoing investigations into the matter, as reported by the media outlet.
