Major Outage Reported on Elon Musk's X Platform

X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant outage on Saturday, impacting users globally, including those in the US and India. The outage, which is the second in less than a week, left tens of thousands of users unable to access core features of the platform.

Downdetector reported a sharp increase in outage reports starting around 8:30 a.m. ET, with approximately 25,000 users indicating issues. Problems included non-functional feeds and panels such as ‘For You,’ ‘Following,’ and ‘Notifications,’ as well as difficulties with logging in, accessing the app, and loading the website. The issues seemed largely resolved by 10 a.m. ET, though some users faced intermittent problems until around 11 a.m. ET.

X acknowledged the ongoing issues and indicated that the platform was still recovering from a data center outage that began on Friday. The company stated that login and signup services were unavailable for some users, and there may be delays in notifications and Premium features. The X developer platform site's incident history log shows that a sitewide outage started Thursday and lasted roughly a day. At the moment, there’s still an error message on the platform status page that reads, “Login with X (OAuth) and other X platform login flows are experiencing degraded performance.”

Elon Musk responded to the outage on X, stating that major operational improvements needed to be made and that the failover redundancy should have worked. He mentioned dedicating more time to the company to address these issues. This outage follows a previous incident on Thursday, and Musk attributed a more significant outage in March to a massive cyberattack.

Reports also surfaced of a fire at an Oregon data center owned by X on Thursday morning. The fire, which reportedly involved batteries, forced an extended response from emergency crews. While X did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the series of outages and related issues highlight ongoing challenges since Musk acquired the platform in 2022.

As of late Saturday, the X website and mobile apps were working again for many users. The X Developer Platform Status website indicated that the "Login with X (OAuth) degraded performance" issue has yet to be resolved.
