The No. 2 seed Michigan State Spartans' hopes of a Final Four ended on Sunday with a 70-64 loss to the No. 1 Auburn Tigers.

The Spartans last made the Final Four in 2019 when they lost to Chris Beard's Texas Tech team. This year, both the Red Raiders and the Spartans ended the NCAA Tournament in the Elite Eight, falling to Florida and Auburn, respectively.

Still, it was a terrific year for head coach Tom Izzo's team despite not advancing to the Final Four.

After the game, former Michigan State star Magic Johnson shared his thoughts on X.

He sent a message to Izzo while admitting it was a disappointing ending to the season.

"I want to thank MSU Coach Izzo and especially all of the players for an exciting and entertaining season! It’s disappointing the tournament run has come to an end with this loss to a strong Auburn team, but this season is one that all Spartans fans should be proud of. I can't wait till next season! #GoGreenGoWhite @MSU_Basketball"

Michigan State finishes with a 30-7 overall record and an Elite Eight trip in what was a stellar year all around for the men's basketball program.

The Spartans finished atop the Big Ten Conference in the regular season but lost to Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament.

Now, Izzo and Michigan State will head into the offseason thinking about what could've been, although there are always high hopes in East Lansing with this program.
