The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has raised alarm over the mysterious disappearance of a man from his house in Kinoo, Kiambu County over the weekend.

Ndiangui Kinyagia was forcefully picked up from the house by suspected security officers in Subaru vehicles late Sunday, LSK said on Monday, citing Kinyagia's neighbours.

“Mr Kinyagia’s residence was surrounded by between six and ten Subaru vehicles. His home was forcibly broken into, and the last communication he had was with his mother around 1:00 PM that day,” it said.

“Since then, he has disappeared without a trace.”

LSK added that the suspected officers also took away Kinyagia’s electronic devices like laptops, as well as some of his identification documents.

A family member confirmed to Citizen Digital on Tuesday morning that they still had no information about the whereabouts of Mr Kinyagia, whom they describe as an activist.

Multiple social media reports have linked Kinyangia to an X account that posted a viral photo of a mock invitation to Wednesday’s planned demonstration in honour of last year’s anti-finance bill protest victims.

The mock image, shared on June 19, features Kenya's coat of arms and an itinerary of events, among them a march to the State House in Nairobi and the swearing-in of a so-called transition council.

However, Mr Kinyagia’s family said it could not establish whether the X account was his.

While the circumstances surrounding the disappearance remain unclear, LSK said the incident “bears the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance and a possible unlawful arrest or detention.”

“The LSK views it as a grave violation of constitutional rights and a direct attack on the rule of law in Kenya. We are demanding immediate and transparent action from the authorities,” the lawyers’ body said.
