One of the Lonely Island's raunchiest songs aired uncensored on Saturday Night Live — which totally surprised the members of the group.

During an episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone, and Andy Samberg reflected on the censorship battle — or lack thereof — that ended in the comedy trio repeatedly singing the word "jizz" on NBC in their viral song "Jizz in My Pants."

"We assumed it couldn't air, and we made a whole other clean version that I believe is on Spotify and Apple and everywhere, where it's Andy and Jorma making like orgasm-y, weird sounds like, 'And I ooh in my pants," Schaffer recalled.

Taccone said that he personally preferred that alternate version of the track. "I, one, didn't think we should air it with the word 'jizz,'" he said. "I was a little bit like, you know, there's still potentially kids watching this show, and I was like, 'We can't, we definitely can't.' And then, two, I thought that the censored version might have been funnier. I don't know how you guys felt, but it was pretty funny."

Schaffer said the group made the song and shot the music video under their recording contract, which meant that SNL boss Lorne Michaels wasn't looped into the segment's creation.

"We just presented it to Lorne, like, 'Look at this polished, cool new thing we made that has Justin Timberlake in a cameo as well, by the way. And do you want to air it? We're making a clean version,'" he remembered.

Much to the Lonely Island's surprise, Michaels had no issue with the song's vulgarity. "He was like, 'Yeah, I want to air it. And it can air like that. It doesn't need to be a clean version. And that's fine. "Jizz" is fine,'" Schaffer recalled. "And we were like, 'What? Is it?' To me, it was a dirtier word than 'dick' in my mind," he said, referring to their previous hit "Dick in a Box," which had been bleeped.

Schaffer said that the segment eventually reached the executive in charge of the network. "It went all the way to Jeff Zucker, who was running NBC at the time, and he had to watch it," the comedian recalled. "And he said, 'It's okay as long as it's after 12:30.' And that is why it aired so late."
