is an American actress, singer, and model best known for her work as Isabel “Belly” Conklin in the Amazon Prime series The Summer I Turned Pretty. She has also starred on Broadway as Eurydice in Hadestown, which earned her two nominations for a Broadway.com Audience Choice Award and an iHeartRadio Music Award.

Tung was born on October 28, 2002 (Lola Tung age: 22) in New York City. Her mother is of Chinese and Swedish descent, and her father is of Eastern European descent.

In middle school, she acted in plays like The Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors. She followed her love of acting to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she graduated in 2020 as a drama major. Later that fall, Tung attended Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, but took time off after finishing her first year to film The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Tung told uInterview exclusively about how she first got into acting: “Well, I think my very first acting experience ever was in sixth grade, I think, and I was the tin man in my school musical, The Wizard of Oz. And I don’t even remember why I auditioned. I think I just really was like, I’ll just do this for fun. And I just absolutely fell in love with the whole process and with being on stage and with storytelling. And I was like, oh, maybe this is something that I can see myself doing in the in the future so, yeah, that was a really pivotal experience for me.”

Tung landed the role as Belly in 2020, while she was taking classes online. She auditioned for the role virtually and landed it soon after. In September of 2021, Tung signed with Creative Artists Agency shortly after filming the first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The series premiered in June 2022, and has since been renewed for its second and third seasons.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Tung spoke about her experience filming the first season and the ways in which she connected to her character, Belly.

“I think, yeah, this is a very pivotal moment in her life of a lot of change, and a lot of change in her relationships with people who she’s known for a very long time. But I think most of all, you know, there’s a lot of change in how she feels about herself and how she is approaching a lot of different things in her life, she’s becoming much more independent and learning who she wants to be and what, what path she wants to take in life, and sort of figuring that all out for herself,” Tung explained. “So I think it’s a really special moment. And you know, I’m not too far off from her age, so I can very much remember what that was like and still, you know, feel like I am. I’m figuring things out as well, so I can understand her point of view. So it was really great to be able to bring that to screen.”

When asked for a favorite scene from the season by , founder of uInterview, Tung smiled as she began to reminisce.

“I think a lot of scenes between Belly and her mother in the show are really special, and sort of really resonated with me,” Tung reflected. “And Laurel, Belly’s mother, reminds me of my mom in many ways. So I think those moments of, you know, Belly wanting to make her own decisions for herself and sort of stray from whatever her mother wants her to do, but sort of coming around and realizing that her mother will always be there for her and always has her her best interest at heart. But of course, they’re going to have different opinions about things. I think that was a really real thing for me to be able to explore and bring to life.”

“I just was talking to the guys,” Meers said. “They seem like a fun group. I imagine this was pretty, pretty fun set to work on. When you look back on this experience 20 years from now, what’s like one moment, maybe behind the scenes, working with the guys that you’ll remember?”

“Oh gosh, so much of it. It was really so special. They are a wonderful group of people. I think our first day of filming was a really special day. And that’s the day that we filmed the famous ‘Belly flop,’ which was, you know, a really special moment in the book. And we had had a couple of weeks in Wilmington, North Carolina, where we filmed, to just bond before we started filming. And I remember that first day, I just felt comfortable with all of them, like we had known each other for so long, and we had the best time, and had a big like, you know, group hug moment at the end. And I just felt so lucky to be part of such a wonderful cast,” Tung said, smiling.

Tung has since gone on to work with and for their developmental residency of Almost Famous at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut, where she starred as Penny Lane.

Tung made her Broadway debut in February 2024 as Eurydice in Hadestown, where she replaced for a limited run and costarred with , who played Orpheus.

She is currently working on two films: I Know What You Did Last Summer, a slasher set to come out later this year, and the 2026 horror film Forbidden Fruits, where she will star alongside , , , and .
