Lionsgate Sets Release Date for New Jason Statham Action Movie

Jason Statham will be back on the big screen next year, as Lionsgate has dated the actor's next action film, Mutiny, for an early 2026 release.

Per Deadline, . An action thriller movie, Mutiny will follow the release of the M3GAN offshoot, Soulm8te, which will hit theaters one week prior. As of now, no other major release are scheduled for Jan. 9, but the next week will also see two anticipated sequels dropping: Barbarian director Zach Creggers' Weapons and Nia DaCosta's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which will follow this year's 28 Years Later.

Mutiny wrapped up production late last year. The film is directed by Jean-François Richet with a screenplay by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis. In addition to starring, Statham is serving as a producer on the project under his production banner Punch Palace Productions. Marc Butan will also produce for MadRiver Pictures. Lauren Bixby and Scott O'Brien are overseeing the project for Liongate alongside Evan Powell for MadRiver.

It was previously reported that Mutiny would also star Roland Møller (Citadel), who will be playing the villain. Annabelle Wallis is also starring, with other actors including Arnas Fedaravičius (The White Lotus) and Adrian Lester (The Sandman).

As much as Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie work so well together, 2024's The Beekeeper proved that David Ayer knows how to utilize the actors talents.

In the movie, Statham plays Cole Reed, a man whose billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him. Now set up to take the fall for the murder, Cole must go on the run while simultaneously work,ing to uncover an international conspiracy. Last November, Statham shared an image on Instagram to reveal the first look at him in character as Cole.

Statham has appeared in several action films over the past few years, including Fast X, Expend4bles, and The Beekeeper, as well as the giant shark thriller Meg 2: The Trench. Before Mutiny hits theaters, Statham is reuniting with The Beekeeper director David Ayer for his next film, A Working Man, which will be hitting the big screen this year. Co-written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone, A Working Man stars Statham as an ex-Royal Marines commando attempting to live a peaceful life as a construction worker, only to fall back on his old skills when his boss's daugther is kidnapped by human traffickers.

“I’m incredibly proud of this film," Ayer recently said on X about A Working Man. "There is the right mix of gravitas and fun. And the action is amazing. I think there is a winning formula. Jason delivers. I really enjoy working with him.”

Mutiny will be released in movie theaters on Jan. 9, 2026.
