Light rain to break heat spell in Tricity for next 5 days

Chandigarh: Residents of the Tricity can expect light showers over the next five days, with the sky remaining partly overcast until May 29. The brief spells of rain are likely to bring the much-needed respite from the scorching heat, even as humidity levels may remain high.On Saturday, Chandigarh recorded a daytime temperature of 37.2°C, which is three notches below normal for this time of the year. Despite the dip in maximum temperature, the night-time temperature stood at 29.7°C, which is four degrees above normal, indicating warmer nights and increasing discomfort, especially in the absence of a consistent wind flow.According to the city Met department, the presence of a western disturbance over the northern parts of India is contributing to the cloud cover and the possibility of intermittent rainfall. While the showers may not be intense, they are expected to bring temporary relief from the afternoon heat."People can expect light to moderate rain in some parts of the region in the evenings or early mornings. The sky will remain partly cloudy, which may help keep the maximum temperatures in check over the next few days," a Met official said.
