Let's not disparage Biden's good actions, more - Newsday

The idea that somehow the administration of former President Joe Biden was diminished by his mental decline while in office is a disservice to us all [“Ex-prez has ‘aggressive’ level cancer,” News, May 19]. Yes, many witnessed certain things that Biden struggled with at some point.

I was at Omaha Beach for the 80th anniversary commemoration of the invasion of Normandy last June and witnessed a strong speech by Biden. His administration ushered in bipartisan passage of historic legislation that would transform our country and keep us a leading nation.

Let’s stop feeding into the idea that the Biden administration did not accomplish historic things that the current administration seems to be working to destroy.

Some news outlets appear afraid to say anything bad about President Donald Trump. But if Joe Biden’s mental status is being questioned, then those outlets should question the current president’s mental acuity.

I watched Trump on the world stage, rambling for 20 minutes, at times incoherently. It’s happening regularly, yet the media focuses on the former president’s acuity. Our democracy appears to be at stake, so Trump’s mental state should be addressed similarly.

I was saddened to read about Joe Biden’s cancer diagnosis. As a Republican, I have disagreed with his views and the way he ran the country, but I feel sorry for him, especially at age 82.

Boy, look what workers are willing to lose money for [“Starbucks workers strike over dress code,” LI Business, May 15]. They are striking over wearing a black shirt and khaki, black or blue denim pants.

When I got out of the Navy in 1969, I got a job with the United Parcel Service. So I went from one service to another service. They had rules — clean-cut hair and no beards. I didn’t like that, but I had a job. Later on, people on my route often said how good I looked. And my appearance made the company look good.

A reader suggests the state use mail-in ballots for school board elections [“School budgets: Make votes easy,” Musings, May  19]. Well, as a disabled resident, I vote by mail in all elections — including those for the school board.

I simply called the Nassau County Board of Elections and asked to have the application mailed to me.
