Lay's potato chips recall upgraded to highest risk level. Is Tennessee affected?

Published 1 month ago2 minute read

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has upgraded the product recall for Lay's Classic Potato Chips to the highest risk level for a batch that may contain undeclared milk ingredients.

In December, Frito-Lay issued a recall warning that select 13-ounce bags may contain undeclared milk posing a risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. On Monday, the FDA classified the recall as "Class I," the most severe risk level, reported USA TODAY.

"Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consumed the recalled product," said the FDA in their initial recall report.

The FDA classifies recalls into three categories (I, II, or III) to indicate the degree of a health hazard presented by a product.

Is Tennessee among the states affected in the Lays recall?

No, according to the recall the bags of chips were distributed to “certain retail stores and e-commerce distributors" in Oregon and Washington.
