Latest Michigan State basketball bracketology projections after Michigan, Purdue wins

Published 3 weeks ago2 minute read

The last few weeks of Michigan State basketball have been an absolute rollercoaster. The Spartans lost two straight on the road to USC and UCLA, dropping their first games since before Thanksgiving after building a 13-game winning streak through December and January.

And then Tom Izzo's team came home to face a decent Oregon team and found itself down 14 at halftime before storming back to win by 12.

It felt like Michigan State was back after that huge second half and then Izzo had an opportunity to break Bob Knight's all-time Big Ten wins record against the legendary coach's former team, Indiana. It would've been a fitting way to break the former Indiana coach's record, but the Spartans stumbled against an underwhelming Hoosier squad and left everyone in a panic.

Since then, however, Michigan State has beaten Illinois and Michigan on the road as well as Purdue at home, all by at least nine points. None of these games were close in the final five minutes.

So following the latest win, a road victory over then-No. 12 Michigan, where does Michigan State stand in the latest bracketology projections?

No. 2 seed in the South (vs. Robert Morris)
No. 2 seed in Midwest (vs. Norfolk State)
No. 2 seed in Midwest (vs. Central Connecticut)
No. 2 seed in South (vs. Bryant)
No. 2 seed in Midwest (vs. Norfolk State)
No. 3 seed
TeamRankings.com: No. 2 seed (No. 7 overall)

As you can see, Michigan State is projected as a No. 2 or No. 3 seed, at worst, after this recent three-game winning streak that saw the Spartans winning in Champaign and Ann Arbor against a couple of conference title contenders and then go home to beat a solid Purdue team.

It's been a while since Michigan State comfortably made the NCAA Tournament field and, man, I forgot how nice it feels.
