L’Agence last dipped into a new category with swimwear back in 2023, so naturally the next one would be something to block out all that sun.
The contemporary women’s denim and apparel brand has partnered with fellow Los Angeles-based milliner Gladys Tamez to introduce a line of straw hats. Priced between $425 and $520, the debut offering is available Monday through both parties.
“I’ve never met a hat I didn’t love,” confessed L’Agence’s fashion director Tara Rudes Dann, whose closet is stocked with several by Tamez. “They’re works of art. Her craftsmanship is meticulous and her designs are expressive.”
Texas-bred, Tamez is best known for landing custom toppers on many famous heads, especially musicians. She was behind the memorable pink fedora Lady Gaga wore on her “Joanne” album cover in 2016 and she’s currently working with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter on her “Cowboy Carter” tour, largely credited with boosting cowboy hat sales.
According to Tamez, Western fashion has become so influential “because it speaks to a spirit of individuality and freedom [and] a great hat, whether it’s a classic cowboy style or a modern interpretation, can do that.”
For L’Agence, she interpreted pieces from the summer 2025 collection, embellishing three ten-gallon silhouettes with the same hardware to match its ready-to-wear. A minimal ultra-wide visor named Flora is the collection’s unadorned Lone Ranger.
Lately, Rudes Dann said she’s been living in the Estella, a Panama style in deep espresso with a gold-tone horsebit. “I wore it on a recent trip to Miami with our cow print Susanna silk lace dress — it was the perfect statement look,” she said. Tamez, on the other hand, favors Zamora, describing the up-flipped brim and chain link as “strong yet feminine. It’s the kind of piece that instantly transforms an outfit without trying too hard.”
This is only a start for the pair, who will return with a second drop of hats for fall 2026.
“Collaborating with L’Agence was such a natural and inspiring process,” said Tamez. “Their team has a clear vision and they care deeply about the details, which aligns with how I approach my work.”
