Kogi State's Ododo Distributes Palliatives to 1,500 Widows

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has distributed palliatives to 1,500 widows across the state’s 21 local government areas. This initiative aims to ease the economic difficulties faced by vulnerable groups. The distribution event took place at the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre in Lokoja, underscoring the state government’s focus on supporting women and improving the welfare of disadvantaged citizens.
During the ceremony, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of caring for widows and vulnerable groups, stating, “The care of widows is not only the job of government; it is a moral duty, a sacred responsibility. Never think for a second that you are forgotten because you are strong, worthy, and full of promises.” He highlighted his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of indigent members of society, particularly women and children. He assured every widow in Kogi State that their welfare is considered in every policy and decision made, promising them a place in the government's plans.
The governor announced that the support extends beyond immediate relief, with plans for a comprehensive support system that includes skills training, healthcare access, small business funding, and educational opportunities for their children. He encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the assistance to enhance their families’ well-being and contribute to their communities’ economies.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the governor’s intervention, acknowledging its timeliness and benefits. The distribution is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and aligns with Governor Ododo’s agenda to provide relief and sustainable support to vulnerable citizens in Kogi State.
More than 1,000 beneficiaries received packages containing a bag of rice, clothing materials, financial assistance, and other food items. Ismaila Isah, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, described the initiative as designed to provide meaningful relief and empower vulnerable groups across the state.
