- Jarajila Ward MCA Noor Sheikh Farah has apologised after the disturbing incident of him brandishing a knife and chasing terrified customers inside a popular town restaurant.

The dramatic incident, which took place at Albeik Hotel shortly after the Garissa Cultural Festival, sparked a national conversation.

CCTV footage from the restaurant showed the MCA storming in, wielding a knife, causing patrons to scatter in fear.

In the video, he is seen chasing two women into an inner room before marching out while giving a sharp military-style salute, a gesture that puzzled and alarmed many viewers.

But in a turn of events, the MCA has now stepped forward to apologise, attributing his actions to a chaotic confrontation he claims began outside the restaurant.

"My name is Noor Sheikh Farah. This is a former military officer who's served the military for 27 years with long service and good conduct and became a councillor in the refugee-hosting communities," he began, in a statement laced with regret.

In his explanation, Noor described the moments leading up to the knife-wielding episode as tense and threatening.

According to him, the confrontation did not start in the restaurant but in the parking lot, where he claims to have been provoked and surrounded by two individuals, one in front of him and one behind.

While defending his instincts as a reaction to perceived danger, Noor acknowledged the gravity of what transpired and the fear it caused.

He offered an apology to the public, especially to the restaurant customers who were caught up in the fracas.

"I'm now apologising to the customers and all the people in Garissa County. It was not in bad intention; I was only defending myself," he stated.

Police have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is ongoing, with area Police Commander Samuel Boit noting that two videos.

He explained that two videos, one showing the MCA being allegedly attacked outside the restaurant, and the other showing him chasing customers inside, are being analysed.

"Police have opened the case file to investigate the two incidents. We are in receipt of the two circulating videos…When the investigation is complete, we'll forward the files to the relevant authorities for resolution and advice," Boit said.

He also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation, stating that contrary to reports, the MCA hadn't been detained.

"I would like to urge the members of the public to disregard the information that shows the MCA has been arrested. It is not true, we have not arrested. I would like to urge the members of the public to be calm," he added.

Elsewhere, West Kasipul MCA Vickins Bondo was injured during a night attack in Nairobi's Lucky Summer area on April 26.

According to his brother, Chrisphine Oloo, Bondo was walking with his sister and friends when unknown assailants confronted them.

Upon hearing a gun cocking, Bondo fell, hitting his head. Doctors later confirmed he was struck by a blunt object, not shot, and he was discharged after treatment.
