Kings Park man charged for allegedly stalking Suffolk Legis. Rob Trotta
Suffolk police have arrested and charged a Kings Park man with stalking a Suffolk County legislator.
Joshua Smith, 47, allegedly stalked Suffolk County Legis. Rob Trotta (R-Fort Salonga) outside his home, Suffolk police said in a news release Monday.
On Thursday, Trotta reported to Suffolk police that a white 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck "parked in the driveway of his Northport home ... and revved its engine to intimidate him and his family" on multiple occasions between last Monday and Wednesday, the release said.
Major Case Unit detectives conducted an investigation and arrested Smith on Indian Head Road in Kings Park about 5:45 p.m. Monday, Suffolk police said. Smith was charged with fourth-degree stalking, a misdemeanor, issued a desk appearance ticket and released. He is expected to appear in First District Court at a future date.
Telephone messages left at Trotta’s Smithtown office were not immediately returned Monday evening.
Trotta represents Suffolk County’s 13th legislative district, which includes Kings Park, a hamlet within the Town of Smithtown.
The legislator will appear on the ballot on Tuesday for the Republican primary election in the race for Smithtown supervisor. He is running against incumbent Supervisor Edward Wehrheim, who is seeking his third four-year term.
