Kindiki: Ruto's development agenda for coastal region bearing fruit
The DP said under the Broad-based government the region has benefitted from expansive development and will continue to do so as it is crucial for the nation’s advancement.
Speaking on Saturday during Economic Empowerment forum at Shelly Beach, Likoni Constituency in Mombasa County, Prof. Kindiki asked the residents not to be duped by a group without an agenda for the nation other than their own interests.
“This is the only government that has invested billions of shillings to revive the nation’s blue economy. The President has also ensured those in charge of the revival of the sector are from the coastal region. We have had Blue Economy Cabinet Secretaries Salim Mvurya and now Ali Hassan Joho who are familiar with the sector issues,” he said.
The DP said the President’s interest in the welfare of the coastal people was clear as he returned port operations to Mombasa immediately after swearing in as he had earlier promised.
Additionally, his administration has invested billions of shillings in building fish landing sites and fish ports in a bid to increase income for locals depending on the sector. Ongoing construction of fish ports presently in Shimoni, Kwale and Liwatoni, Mombasa.
“The President has also instructed CS Joho to acquire deep-sea fishing boats to ensure fishermen can safely venture into the deep sea for days and come back with better catch that will attract higher returns. They will arrive soon and the President will be here to commission them,” he said.
Under two years, Beach management units in the five coastal counties have benefitted from Sh3.2 billion in grants.
Mombasa and the coastal region will also be a big beneficiary of the revamped Kazi Mtaani-Climate WorX program to be relaunched in the next few weeks.
“We will consider increasing the Kazi Mtaani vacancies allocated to the county as requested by the leaders.”
The government is also building modern markets in every constituency in Mombasa county to provide decent places of business for mama mboga and small-scale traders.
It has also completed Dongo-Kundu bridge that will enhance business and movement in the county.
Following appeals by Mombasa leaders, the President has given the greenlight for the operationalization of Mtongwe ferry that will ease movement of the people across the Likoni channel.
With this range of development and others lined up, the DP said it is in order for them to call for two terms of President Ruto because it is grounded on tangible service to Kenyans.
“When we come to Mombasa, we come with solutions to land issues, transportation problems, electricity expansion and construction of modern markets.
“We are working 24/7, every day of the week, January to December. We are Team Kazi Bila Break and our commander is Rais William Ruto. We have addressed issues on the growth of the blue economy, economic empowerment of women and youth and how to take the country forward.
That is what we mean when we say two terms. Two terms of more money for fishermen, two terms of better healthcare through SHA, two terms of expansion of last-mile electricity connection to 15 million Kenyans with power, two terms of better roads, two terms of 1000 new modern markets.”
DP Kindiki dismissed opponents to the administration’s development agenda noting their failure to make any notable difference when they held senior positions in government before.
“The other team is focused on tribalism and dividing Kenyans. They are singing one term but when you ask them what their manifesto is, they will say one term, Ruto Must Go. They are failures and should be ignored. Some have been in power, as Vice President and Deputy President and senior Cabinet Secretaries but they have nothing to show for the people of Mombasa and coastal region,” he stated.
